Raised in Virginia, Gianna Macedon is a young mezzo-soprano with a very wide vocal range. In 2019 she played Spirit Number 2 in The Magic Flute with the Washington National Opera. In 2022, she was part of the Washington National Opera Institute, where she performed Opera Scenes at the REACH and was part of the making of the The Weird and Wonderful World of Opera YouTube video for the Kennedy Center. Currently, she is a Vocal Performance & Physics Major and is part of the Glynn Family Honors Program Minor at the University of Notre Dame, in South Bend, Indiana where she studies with voice professor Anne Slovin. She is part of the University of Notre Dame Chorale, ND Schola and Opera Notre Dame (2024). She recently sang a solo in the Messiah (2023). In the summer of 2024, she performed Opera Scenes during both the AAMS Emerging Young Artists Intensive (played Nicklausse in a Tales of Hoffman scene on Millennium Stage at the The Kennedy Center) and with the Opera Theatre of the Rockies Vocal Arts Festival (played Hansel in a Hansel and Gretel scene and Spirit 3 in The Magic Flute scene). When she comes back to Washington DC she serves as a cantor at local area churches for liturgies and special services. Gianna desires to make beautiful music to help others discover the gift that they truly are to the world, as beauty nourishes both the heart and the imagination and brings out the good in each person.
